School Counseling Specialization
The School Counseling specialization prepares graduates to achieve state certification as Certified School Counselors and to become vital members of school education teams. Students choosing this emphasis will be eligible for certification in the State of Arizona as a school counselor, as well as meeting the educational requirements for licensure in the State of Arizona as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Students who choose to work as school counselors assist all students in the areas of academic achievement, personal and social development, and career development.
Students must earn a score of 151 on the Praxis Professional School Counselor Exam (5421) no later than one month prior to graduation. Learn more about the exam. Students will also take the SC Standards Knowledge Assessments at the end of the preceding semester. For any standard in which mastery was not demonstrated, students, in collaboration with their advisor, will develop a plan to review materials related to the standard and demonstrate the knowledge before being approved for having met all graduation requirements
