STEM, Growth Mindset, and Sports: Investigating STEM Program Design Features that Impact Youth Engagement

09/01/2020 - 08/31/2024

Growing Mathletes: STEM in Baseball and Softball is a 5-year project that integrates sports, math and science concepts, and growth mindset to broaden participation, and enhance mathematics and science learning and engagement among youth underrepresented in STEM fields, particularly Latinx and African American students. Growing Mathletes builds on existing partnerships with Major League Baseball (MLB), College Softball, and Boys/Girls Club programs, and Science of Baseball activities previously tested with middle school youth in various states. The Growing Mathletes project aims to expand and refine Science of Baseball activities to include softball, to enhance engagement among girls, and growth mindset experiences that focus on the value of effort, determination, and learning from mistakes in both athletics and STEM.
