Redesigning college admission amid the COVID-19 pandemic

March 22, 2020

Assistant Professor Karina Salazar's research, which found that colleges disproportionately recruit students from wealthier, whiter areas, was mentioned in a Forbes article about how college admission practices are shifting due to the coronavirus outbreak.

College recruiters are presented with an opportunity to examine the practices around recruitment and how resources are allocated by college and university admission offices.

"With high school visits currently off the table, the admission profession must focus efforts on other recruitment tools and this provides an opportunity to level the playing field in the approach to building an applicant pool that is more representative of our society."

The assistant professor of higher education was nominated for her research into whether the enrollment management practices of public universities undermine access for underserved student populations.
