Collaborative Research: Advancing Equity and Strengthening Teaching with Elementary Mathematical Modeling

EQ-STEMM focuses on equity-centered professional development designed to improve mathematics teaching and learning through mathematical modeling in grades K-5. The goals of this project are to increase equitable participation and learning of mathematical modeling for culturally and linguistically diverse children; develop and test tools and resources to strengthen mathematical modeling instruction that leverages students’ lived experiences and cultural funds of knowledge; and develop and refine a model for an innovative practice-based professional development that includes on-line hybrid learning spaces for teachers in diverse settings.
